A British student and promising footballer has died after suffering a suspected heart attack at his university apartment in the US.
Peter McAvoy, 22, a student at Herkimer College in New York State, died on Saturday evening after collapsing on his sofa. His flatmate alerted campus safety officers but they were unable to revive him.
Mr McAvoy, from Dundee, who was captain of the college soccer team and the reigning US Junior College Player of the Year, was taken to nearby Little
Falls Hospital where he was pronounced dead.                                                                Peter McAvoy

The college said the cause of his death is not known and a post-mortem examination will be carried out, but medics reportedly told his family he suffered a suspected heart attack.
His father Peter McAvoy Snr told the Daily Mail: "Peter went with some friends to watch the softball team play and went back to his apartment afterwards when he died. He was sitting on the settee and just keeled over at about teatime.

"The medics believe he had a massive heart attack. It's just hard to believe, he was a fit young man."
Dean of students Matthew Hawes said: ''Our deepest condolences are with Peter's family as they grieve this tragic loss.
''Our thoughts are also with his team-mates, coaches, friends, faculty and staff during this difficult time.''
Mr McAvoy was named national player of the year last year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

The college is holding a candlelit vigil in his memory at its Wehrum Stadium this evening.
