Back in
March, Chris Brown was thrown in jail for violating his probation by getting
kicked out of rehab for poor behavior. He was subsequently sent to jail
for what was supposed to be a stay until late April, which was when his
trial was supposed to begin for his assault case stemming from claims that
punched a young man who photo bombed the singer while he was taking a picture
with fans. However, according to TMZ, the trial, which was supposed to start
yesterday, has been postponed “indefinitely” after Brown’s bodyguard was found
guilty for his assault charges from that same altercation (he was accused of
punching the young man as well).
The bodyguard was going to be called as a
witness for Brown and state that he was the only one
who hit the guy. Instead, the bodyguard has decided to appeal his guilty
verdict, and testifying in Brown’s trial could hurt his chances with that
appeal, so with the bodyguard out as a witness, the trial had to be postponed.
Brown actually was transported cross-country from a jail in Los Angeles to a
jail in Virginia so he could be near D.C. for his trial, and he will have to do
the days-long journey back to his uncomfortable jail cell in LA.
Brown’s
attorney tried to ask for the singer to be released, but that request was
denied. According to the Los Angeles Times, the trial could
start again, at the earliest, in June, but Brown will have to stay behind bars
until then. At the latest, prosecutors say his new trial could be put off for
as long as a year, but here’s to hoping things will be worked out way before
then…
Again, if
found guilty in the assault case, which would be a violation of his probation
from his guilty verdict in the assault on Rihanna in 2009, the singer could
face up to four years of incarceration.
