If you are
interesting in living in a posh black neighborhood
you should consider moving to either Maryland or New York. According
to The Root, a majority of the most affluent black communities
are located in these two states.
At the top
of the list is Fort Washington, Md., where the median household income is
$110,759. Mega-church Ebenezer AME is located here. “African Americans in this
Prince George’s County community make up 70.6 percent of the city’s residents,”
reports The Root.
Over in New
York, Hillcrest, located in Rockland County, was also high on the list. Black
households in Hillcrest have a median household income of $96,838 and 55.8
percent of its residents are black. According to the New York Times, this former
Jewish enclave had Rockland County’s highest percentage of African Americans
and Asians in 2001.
Other places

African-American pop. 85.4 percent); Bowie (median household income:
$105,936, African-American pop. 48.7 percent); Friendly (median
household income: $97,598, African-American pop. 79.6 percent); and

Heights, N.Y. ($84,258, 54.6 percent black) also made the list.
Non-NY or
Maryland sites included Ladera Heights, Calif. where the media household income
is $97,568. ¨Ladera Heights borders two other affluent African-American
communities in Southern California: View Park-Windsor Hills and Baldwin Hills,
¨ reports The Root. The neighborhood is 73.7 percent black. And having lived in
Ladera Heights at one point, this writer can tell you when folks in L.A. hear
you are in LH, they are impressed.

Chicago’s black ellite. The median household income here is $79,762 where
