SAD: 24-year-Old Vacation Student Among Nyanya Blast Victims

A student of the Institute of Non-Formal Education in Gombe State, Miss Ladi Mudugah, was among the people who died in the bomb explosion which rocked Nyanya on Thursday night.

Our correspondent was informed that she came on vacation to visit her relations in Abuja.
Her sister, Hajiya Samirah Abubakar Atiku, said she was unable to “look consistently at the body of my beloved sister because it was shattered by the explosion.”

She stated on Friday in Abuja at the mortuary of the Asokoro General Hospital, that the Federal Government should adopt a new strategy in its quest to end the recurrent security threat being experienced in the country.

“The government should do something about the security situation in the country, this is something that used to happen in the nornthern states, now it has extended to Abuja. We are no longer safe anywhere in Nigeria, ” she cried out.

She also narrated how they have been asked to deposit a photograph of the deceased to the Asokoro Police Station for verification before they can claim the corpse.

“We are waiting for the photograph to arrive from Gombe, our home state,”she added.

Another relative at the mortuary, Mr. Chukwudi Okoye, charged the government to rise up to the security challenge facing even though he claimed that the insurgents seem to be out-smarting the government.

He said that his brother, whom he simply identified as Kenneth died last night. “I don’t know how to relate this story to his wife,” he said.

Okoye regretted “ever returning home last night” insisting that “if Kenneth had joined me and others” before the blast, he may have sustained minor injuries only.
At the Maitama General Hospital, Mrs. Angela Effiong who is the Hospital’s Secretary revealed that about four victims were brought to the hospital but that one was referred to the National Hospital, Abuja having sustained serious burns.
