Former Nigeria player Mutiu Adepoju has predicted a very good outing for Stephen Keshi’s men at the World Cup which begins in June.
The ex-midfielder, who was nicknamed ‘Headmaster’
due to prowess in scoring with his head, said that with adequate
preparation, Nigeria will survive Argentina, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina
in Group F and also surpass the second round stage.
“Nothing short of a good performance is what Nigerians expect from
the Super Eagles and this involves good preparation and also try as much
as possible to put in their best,” Adepoju told the Source.
“We have good players, talents and a great technical crew that can take the team to the second round and beyond.
“All I believe is that with adequate preparations, good state of mind
and the right tactics, the Super Eagles will fly very high in Brazil,”
he added.
When asked why it was a difficult task for Nigeria to get past the
second round of the tournament despite boasting of impressive
achievements in age-grade competitions, the former Real Sociedad star,
who represented Nigeria at three Fifa World Cups, revealed that
achieving such feats involves a well structured building process.
“It is a long-term process; you can’t just say you will win the Fifa
World Cup without long-term planning. It involves perseverance and going
for it afterwards.
“If we start doing what is right who says we cannot challenge for it in a few years," he said.

Asked to make a prediction, Adepoju declined, instead opting to stay positive.
"I can’t predict how far the team will go, all I want is for the
Super Eagles to go very far at the World Cup and make Nigerians happy,”
he concluded.
