The Lagos State Government says it is
working for the passage of a law to protect individuals who have
sensitive information to share with the general public.
The government added that the law would
support the implementation of the Freedom of Information Law that was at
the verge of being submitted to the state House of Assembly.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Political and Legislative Powers Bureau, Folami Olohuntele, said this on Tuesday in Ikeja.
He said the request for the
whistle-blower law was one of the items in the communiqué issued at the
last Executive/Legislative Parley in Lagos.
He said, “The bureau has facilitated
meetings where matters are tabled for effective cohesion and clarity
which often forms part of the state policies and legislative proceedings
of the Assembly.
“We have consistently fashioned out a common ground for good governance and further enhance effective legislative information.”
Folami, who said the FOI Act had yet to
be domesticated in Lagos, added that the version of the FoI bill was in
the process of being presented before the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The special adviser said nine laws were
passed and accented to by the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola,
between 2013 and 2014.
He listed some of the laws to include
the anti-smoking law, 2014; the Lagos Command and Control Centre Law,
2014; Cremation Law 2013; the Appropriation Amendment Law 2013 and the
Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation Law 2013.
He added that the Lagos State Anti-terrorism Bill 2012 was awaiting second reading in the Assembly
