Ekiti State to Engage 5,000 Youths in Agric. Scheme

The Ekiti State Government is engaging 5,000 unemployed youths into its “Youth in Commercial Agriculture Development Programme to bring down the unemployment rate in the state, a top official said.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Jide Arowosafe, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti on Monday the government would, on Tuesday, commence the process of registering all unemployed youths interested in the scheme.

Arowosafe said the measure was part of strategies by the state government to reduce the current rate of unemployment in the country.

He said that the government was determined to build on the impressive record of a total of 15,000 direct and indirect jobs already created through the programme since its inception three years ago.

He, therefore, advised all unemployed youths in the state to take advantage of the concept to get themselves employed.

Arowosafe explained that under the agriculture programme, participants, who might be
graduates of any discipline, were given land, farm tools, implements as well as capital free of charge, to specialise in whatever area of agriculture of their choice.
