company, eKnowvate Solutions Limited, has built an electronic commerce
platform for businesses in the popular Computer Village located at
Ikeja, Lagos.
The firm said this was part of its focus
on delivering adaptive and innovative Information Technology solutions
that could add value and further drive the business objectives of
customers across various verticals of the economy. The portal, MyComputerVillage.com, is
expected to provide an e-Commerce platform for over 6,000 shops and an
estimated 18,000 businesses at the computer and allied accessories
market, reputed to be the largest of its kind in West Africa, to
showcase their products to a global audience for improved customer
engagement and patronage.
The e-Commerce platform, the Managing
Director of the firm, Mr. Muyiwa Alawode, was developed in conjunction
with the executives of the market association – Computer and Allied
Products Dealers Association of Nigeria.
The move, he explained, had become
expedient in order to preserve the market share of businesses in
Computer Village in the sales of IT equipment and accessories in view of
recent competition from a number of e-Commerce platforms.
He said, “MyComputerVillage.com offers a
unique platform that promotes the company names and brands of the
individual businesses that subscribe on the platform as opposed to other
e-Commerce platforms that serve as mere aggregators of products.
“Further, the e-Commerce provider,
eKnowvate Solutions, does not share in the sales proceeds of shop owners
for transactions that take place on the platform as the case in other
e-Commerce platforms.”
Alawode described the portal as a virtual
shopping mall where businesses in the market could own shops, as
subscribers to the platform are offered all the tools needed to enable
their business go live on the Internet without needing to worry about
technical setup skills, hosting and maintenance upgrades.
He said, “All that a subscriber has to do
is sign up for the service and start trading. The platform is an
affordable, convenient, effective and efficient online shopping mall.
“With a monthly or annual rental fee,
entrepreneurs and businesses that currently have shops can effectively
showcase their products and brands to prospective buyers via an online
shop.”
