The Colombian pop star, Shakira, confirms she will
perform at this year’s World Cup closing ceremony taking place in July
13, making her the first artist to have ever performed at the World Cup
three consecutive times.
The singer will perform her new single La La La (Brazil 2014) at the
Marcana stadium, taking place before the finals in Rio de Janeriro.
Shakira, who performed in Germany in 2006 and South Africa in 2010
respectively, will perform also in Brazil making her third consecutive
appearance in the World Cup.
The singer, whose home team will face Brazil on Friday at the quarter final stage, said she was “thrilled” to perform.
“I have an intricate relationship with football for obvious reasons,
and I truly understand what the World Cup means to so many people,
myself included,” the singer hinted.
“The fans have shown the most incredible support for this song and I can’t wait to perform it for them,” She added.
The 37-year-old singer, who is married to a Spanish defender Gerard
Pique, whose hits include Hips Don’t Lie and She Wolf, also performed
the official song of the 2010 World Cup – Waka Waka (This Time for
Africa) – which is reportedly the biggest-selling World Cup song of all
time.
The Brazil ceremony, which marks the end of a month of football, will
also see Carlos Santana and hip-hop star Wyclef Jean perform the
official anthem Dar Um Jeito alongside Brazil’s Alexandre Pires.
